At What Could Be Better? we love helping our customers experience the sights, sounds, and freedom of nature. However, any seasoned outdoor enthusiast will tell you that nature can be as dangerous as it is inspiring if you’re not prepared. Today, we have four tips to help keep you safe on your next adventure!
Wear the Right Clothing
Your choice of clothing can make all the difference when it comes to your comfort and safety while outdoors. For casual hikes in warmer weather, a breathable t-shirt and athletic hat can help keep you cool and protected from the sun. If you’re doing an activity like snowshoeing in the winter, make sure you layer up your clothing and keep your head covered with a cozy beanie.
Bring First Aid Supplies
Steep cliffs, sharp rocks, and uneven ground are just some of the things you might encounter in nature that can quickly lead to injury. When you’re out in the wild it might take several hours to receive professional medical attention, so it’s good practice to carry basic first aid supplies with you. Your first aid kit should include items such as bandages, tweezers, pain relievers, and an emergency blanket.
Keep Yourself Hydrated
Did you know that outdoor adventurers suffer from dehydration even when they have extra water? This is because they overestimate how hydrated they are in their attempt to conserve water for later. To avoid this, WCBB? recommends that you take a surplus of water with you and that you drink it consistently.
Let Someone Know Where You’re Going
Before setting out on an excursion, you should always let someone know where you’re going. Even if you bring a cell phone with you, the battery might die or you might lose signal once you get further into nature. By telling someone you trust where you’ll be going and when they should expect you back, you can drastically increase your odds of getting rescued if needed.
